SOUL CITY STUDIOS: Where Community, Creativity, and Caring Meet
Located at the heart of Austin's vibrant Soul City corridor, Soul City Studios represents the future of Chicago's west side - a place where culture thrives, businesses grow, and community bonds strengthen. This isn't just a building. It's a movement rooted in the neighborhood's rich African-American heritage and pointed toward a prosperous tomorrow.
Proudly positioned at the flagship intersection in the Soul City corridor, just 820 feet from Oak Park's border, Soul City Studios serves as a westerly gateway celebrating Chicago's diversity and resilience. After decades of disinvestment, this location is primed to capture the estimated 85% of Austin's disposable income currently flowing to neighboring communities.
Community Vision
Envisioned as the "Entertainment Hub" of Austin's "Soul Center," our project builds on the momentum of the Chicago Avenue Soul City Corridor Commercial Development Study. We're creating a cultural benchmark similar to Chinatown or Greektown, where visitors can experience the unique music, art, and cuisine that define Austin's African-American community.
City-Wide Support
With Chicago's Neighborhood Opportunity Fund (NOF) and Community Development Grants, as well as the State of Illinois' DCEO Bond Fund Grants, Austin is positioned to capitalize on significant public investment. This creates a powerful public-private partnership that will transform the corridor.

Before & After
A Historic Building Reimagined
Preserve
We're tastefully rehabilitating a 105-year-old red masonry building with 40 feet of frontage on W. Chicago Avenue and 116 feet along N. Mayfield Avenue. This mixed-use building, though currently vacant, represents the architectural heritage of Austin and the potential for beautiful, functional spaces.
Transform
The ground floor will be occupied by upscale entertainment-related services, including a wellness lounge and an art gallery, creating vibrant spaces for community gathering and cultural expression. These spaces will serve both local residents and attract visitors from across Chicago.
Innovate
One second-floor apartment will become a state-of-the-art Creative Space equipped with a State of the Art Podcast studio, while the other will be updated as quality housing. This mixed-use approach creates diverse revenue streams while serving multiple community needs in one location.
